MRCEM OSCE July 2026: Eligibility criteria
To apply for the MRCEM OSCE, candidates must meet the following requirements, which ensure they possess the clinical competence and experience necessary for emergency medicine practice.
- Hold a current full medical registration with a license to practice
- Have completed a minimum of six months of full-time equivalent (FTE) experience in Emergency Medicine above Foundation Training or its equivalent.
- Have successfully passed both the MRCEM Primary and MRCEM SBA examinations, or their previously accepted equivalent exams.
What is MRCEM OSCE?
It is the final clinical examination that assesses the practical skills required of an emergency medicine physician. It evaluates a candidate’s competencies such as communication, clinical reasoning, patient assessment, and decision-making in simulated real-world situations. Candidates have to demonstrate their ability to manage patients safely and effectively in such high-pressure environments. Clearing the exam highlights that the candidates have met the standards expected by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.
